Michael Mizrachi's closing out the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event so quickly and effortlessly shouldn't surprise anyone who has followed his career.

The newly minted world champion could be the greatest closer in poker history, an argument backed by data. Mizrachi took down the Main Event in the same year he won his record fourth $50,000 WSOP Poker Players Championship. He didn't win WSOP Player of the Year — Shaun Deeb did — but he proved something even greater.

How Good is the Newest Poker World Champion?

Every sport, even a mind sport like poker, has its legendary closers, those who consistently finish off a championship run when in position to close it out. The Chicago Bulls never lost an NBA Finals in six attempts under Michael Jordan's leadership. Mariano Rivera, the New York Yankees closer in the 1990s and 2000s, had a Major League Baseball record 652 regular season saves and is widely considered the best postseason relief pitcher in baseball history.

Mizrachi may have locked up the title of being the Mariano Rivera of Poker when he closed out the PPC and the Main Event in the same summer. But he's been closing out tournaments for years.

"The Grinder," according to The Hendon Mob, has won 34 live poker tournaments lifetime, but only has 10 runner-up finishes. He's closed out tournaments he's been heads-up in at a 77% clip. Even more impressive? He's 8-2 (80%) at winning a bracelet when heads-up at the WSOP. Phil Hellmuth, who holds the record with 17 bracelets, has 14 losses when heads-up for a WSOP title, in comparison.

Mizrachi cruised through much of the 2025 WSOP Main Event final table with ease, and, yes, he benefited from a number of lucky hands. He did so in near record time, brushing off the competition in less than 80 hands, the quickest since Joe McKeehen won it in 2015.

The newest member of the Poker Hall of Fame doesn't just close out World Series of Poker events. Mizrachi has two World Poker Tour (WPT) titles in three heads-up attempts.

Mizrachi has won bracelets in Las Vegas, online, and at World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE). He comes from a family of closers. His brother, Robert Mizrachi, has five bracelets and has never lost a heads-up match at the WSOP. The brothers are a combined 13-2 at closing out a WSOP event. They'd make Venus and Serena Williams proud.

Michael Mizrachi, who now has over $29 million in live tournament cashes, had a wild 2025 WSOP. "The Grinder" racked up 10 cashes this summer for just $40,911 total until winning the PPC for $1,331,322. His only other cash was the Main Event title for $10,000,000. But that isn't unusual for the world champ, who has made the most of his huge-score opportunities.
