The 2025 PokerNews Online Championship Mystery Bounty Main Event at 888poker has a $300,000 guarantee on its prize pool. Time is running out if you want to be in with a shout of winning a slice of that pie because only a handful of $215 buy-in Day 1s remain.
The Main Event requires 1,500 entrants to hit the lofty guarantee. At the time of writing, 766 players had bought in over 15 flights, with only 88 navigating through the shark-infested waters into Day 2. 888poker ambassador Ian "Simpioni" Simpson is one of them. The popular Brit ended his flight with 112,328 chips, putting him in the top 25% of the returning field.
PokerNewsambassador Lukas "RobinPoker." Robinson is also safely through, albeit with a much shorter stack. Robinson progressed with 43,698, just shy of 18 big blinds, so he has some work to do when Day 2 shuffles up and deals at 9:30 p.m. GMT on February 24. You can see how Robinson and Simpson get on in the PNOC Mystery Bounty Main Event by heading to their Twitch channels shortly after Day 2 commences.
Could An Overlay Be On the Cards?
As mentioned, 766 players have bought into the PNOC Main Event across 15 completed Day 1s, which leads us to believe an overlay on the $300,000 guarantee is a possibility. Only six flights remain, and they need to attract at least 734 to the 888poker virtual felt, essentially doubling the average attendance of the completed flights. It is a tall order, but that means more value for the player who have/do enter the mix.

- An extensive guide to the popular card game 777 Rummy, which blends skill, luck, and strategy. Up to six players can participate in this standard deck of cards game. Using the cards that have been dealt, the main goal is to form valid sets and runs. 25-03-01
- Three or more cards in the same suit that are consecutive form a run, while three or more cards of the same rank but different suits make up a set. The fact that in order to win, players must form at least three sets or runs totaling seven cards is where the game gets its name. This special feature increases complexity by requiring players to pay attention to their hands while keeping an eye on their opponents' movements. The game's dynamic gameplay, which promotes adaptation and strategic thinking, is what makes it so appealing. The unique rules of 777 Rummy for melding cards and dealing with the discard pile force players to continually weigh their options and make wise choices. 25-03-01
- One crucial element of 777 Rummy that can greatly affect your chances of winning is the skill of discarding & picking up cards. Knowing your opponents' needs as well as your own is essential to strategic discarding. It is important to think about which cards could be useful to others because when you discard a card, you are essentially giving away information about your hand. You should be careful not to discard cards that could aid an opponent in completing their melds, for instance, if you know they are collecting a particular suit or rank. 25-03-01

- Keeping your hand under control during the game is another important tactic. This involves exercising discernment in the cards you decide to keep and discard. If high-value cards don't help your melds, holding onto them can be dangerous. 25-03-01
- Players frequently undervalue the impact of the cards they decide to discard; thoughtless discards can unintentionally help opponents finish their melds. Similar to this, picking up cards on the spur of the moment without thinking about how they fit into your larger plan can result in a jumbled hand full of useless cards. Spend some time carefully assessing your needs and your opponents' needs during each turn to avoid these traps. You can improve your 777 Rummy experience and prospects of winning by being aware of these typical blunders and making an effort to stay away from them. 25-03-01

- As the round goes on, players have to be careful about what they discard because it can tell their opponents a lot about the makeup of their hand. The requirement to maintain track of which cards have been picked up or discarded heightens the strategic aspect of 777 Rummy and helps players plan their next moves. Players also need to know the endgame conditions. The round ends when a player successfully melds their cards and is eliminated, and points are calculated based on the number of unmelded cards that remain in each player's hand. An interesting & competitive environment is created by this scoring system, which pushes players to think about how their actions may effect others in addition to just their own hands. A well-thought-out strategy that incorporates both offensive and defensive play is necessary to win at 777 Rummy, rather than relying solely on luck. 25-03-01
