- Davies Back After Missing 2024
- Where Dreams Are Made
Monte Carlo isn't just another stop on the seemingly never-ending global poker circuit for Seth Davies. It's special. It's a reminder for him, and other high roller players, of where it all began and how far he's come.
PokerStars European Poker Tour Monte Carlo has a host of High Roller tournaments, with the biggest of them all the €100,000 Super High Roller kicking off today, with a host of big names such as Davies joining the action.
Davies Back After Missing 2024
For a player who's risen through the ranks to regularly compete at the very highest level of tournament poker, Davies says that after missing out on the stop in 2024, returning to the EPT has both personal and professional significance and that the tour still holds a unique place in his heart.
"I probably first came to Monte Carlo in 2014," Davies recalls. "I missed it last year, so I'm really glad to be back. It's such a fixture in my schedule…in all of our schedules, really."
"I haven't prioritized the EPT as much lately because Triton's become so big," he admits. "But I do miss it. Before I was playing high stakes all the time, I'd come here for the Main Event and those small side events. I love all the EPTs. They really do have a special place in my heart."

Where Dreams Are Made
Part of the charm, Davies explains, lies in the EPT's accessibility and the diversity of players it draws, from first-timers in €500 events to pros grinding the €30Ks.
"These EPT stops are where dreams are made," he says. "I remember back in 2013, I was living in Mexico with a bunch of American expat poker players. One of my friends chopped the EPT Barcelona Main Event for a million euros. That kind of money was unimaginable to me then. It was his dream come true, and that left a mark."
Despite years of travel and tournaments all over the globe, Monte Carlo still carries a unique weight for Davies and his poker circle.
"It definitely has that extra ring to it when someone says, 'I'm going to Monte Carlo.' It's different than saying you're going to Florida or Bay 101. No offense to those places. They're great. But Monaco just has that prestige."
With the tournament often coinciding with major events like the Formula E race, the glamor is also impossible to ignore.
"There's something cool about being here during all that. Even after all this time, Monte Carlo still feels special."

- Players must become acutely aware of both the cards they are holding and the ones they have thrown away in order to master this technique. A successful sequence can be formed in a variety of ways & consists of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. A valid sequence has already been created, for example, if you hold a 5, 6, and 7 of hearts. The cards that players draw and the moves that their opponents make, however, require them to be ready to modify their plans. Putting an emphasis on creating pure sequences early in the game is a good way to become proficient at card sequencing. A sequence is considered pure if it contains no jokers, which is important when declaring rummy. 25-05-10
- Three or more cards of the same suit in a row make up a valid sequence, whereas three or four cards of the same rank but different suits make up a set. For any player hoping to succeed in Indian Rummy, it is essential to comprehend these core ideas. Each player is dealt a set number of cards at the start of the game, typically 13, with the remaining cards making up the draw pile. The players alternately draw a card from the discard pile or the draw pile, then discard one card from their hand. Until a player declares Rummy after successfully combining their cards into legitimate sets and sequences, the game goes on. 25-05-10
- Players can decide which cards to discard and when to play aggressively by keeping an eye out for these trends. Also, you can predict your opponents' next moves by being aware of their tendencies. To reduce risk, some players might prefer to keep high-point cards for longer, while others might discard them right away. By identifying these patterns, you can modify your approach to either capitalize on their weaknesses or block their possible sequences. 25-05-10

- Jokers are wild cards in Indian Rummy that can be used in a variety of ways to finish sets or sequences. Their adaptability makes them effective instruments for players who want to rapidly improve their hands. But effective joker use necessitates planning and strategic thinking. Jokers are frequently used to finish unfinished sets or sequences that would be challenging to meld with the cards you currently hold. For example, if you have a joker and two 4s of different suits, you can use the joker to replace any other 4 that you need to finish your set. Similarly, a joker can be used to fill in the gaps in a sequence, such as 8-9-10 of hearts, if you don't have the 7 or 11 to finish it. 25-05-10

- Players can reduce the chance that they will have high-point cards in their hand if an opponent declares before them by concentrating on making pure sequences first. Also, players can predict which sequences are still possible & which ones might be out of reach by keeping track of which cards have been discarded. As important as controlling your own hand in Indian Rummy is keeping an eye on your opponents' moves. The activities of every player reveal important details about their tactics and possible melds. An opponent may be trying to finish a particular set or sequence if, for example, they routinely remove cards from the discard pile. 25-05-10
